NEWS RELEASE
ST BRIGID'S SCHOOL, DENBIGH
The
School was inspected in April by a team of 18 Independent Inspectors on behalf
of Estyn who also met with parents and governors. The team spent a week in the
school and reported as follows:
'St Brigid's School is a good school where pupils of all ages and abilities
learn successfully in an environment in which they feel safe and secure.'
'Pupils receive a good quality of education. The quality of teaching is
a significant strength of the whole school, both Primary and Secondary. Pupils
are provided with a good range of opportunities both in the curriculum and in
extra-curricular activities... in the Sixth Form, the quality of teaching is
good or better in 100% of the classes observed with 24% being very good.
'The Head teacher provides very good leadership. She is held in high regard
by the whole school community and much respected. She leads a small but effective
and committed SMT with representatives from the primary and secondary departments,
who take responsibility for managing the whole school'
'Pupils' moral and social development is very good; their spiritual and cultural
development is good'
The school successfully creates an environment which encourages and reinforces
good behaviour based on mutual respect between all members of the school community.
In the secondary department pupils go about their daily routines in a very orderly
manner. They are friendly, polite and very courteous. In class behaviour is
very often exemplary. The atmosphere is always conducive to work and pupils
take an active role in their own learning'.......
'Parents who attended the pre-inspection meeting report that behaviour throughout
the school is often "exceptional". The overwhelming majority who submitted responses
agree or strongly agree that the school sets high standards of behaviour and
discipline."
The
quality of support, guidance and pupils welfare is very good and is a strong
feature of this part of the school. The school provides a friendly, secure environment
based on Christian values which are central to its ethos. Both pupils and parents
consider the school to be a caring community where the needs of individual pupils
are known and addressed.
'Transition
between the key stages is well managed. Pupils transferring from primary to
secondary within the school are well supported.'
'Pupils
with SEN generally join in the full range of school activities and make good
progress relative to their age and ability.'
The schools partnership with parents is very good. Partnership with the community
and other schools and institutions is good.'
'Leadership and efficiency is good overall. The latest auditors report found
that the financial systems and procedures in the school are operated efficiently
and effectively. Resources are adequate and put to best use to the advantage
of pupils. Governors carry out their role rigorously and their responsibilities
are clearly defined. They help to promote the school and take great pride in
its achievements.'
