ST BRIGID'S LOWER SCHOOL Ages 3 - 10 Welcome to St Brigid's Lower School page! As your child begins their educational journey at St. Brigid's we aim to nurture and guide them every step along the way. We want to inspire them to be the best they can be and to ensure that they thrive throughout their time at St Brigid's and for the rest of their lives. St Brigid's Lower School department caters specifically for children between the ages of 3 and 10 years old and covers the first seven years of schooling from Nursery up to Year 5. We aim to give children the very best possible start to their education, in a holistic way that enables the whole child to flourish. We recognise the importance of early education and the impact this can have upon children as they progress through St. Brigid’s School and their lives. We aim to provide the very best educational and spiritual experiences possible through delivering a thorough, broad, and balanced curriculum. LEARNING In designing our curriculum, we recognise that the needs of our children are ever changing and that we must adapt to meet those needs, as such, pupil voice plays an important part in our curriculum design. We aim to provide an immerse experience where children are surrounded by opportunities to develop within our Brigidine Learner Profile. We are, knowledge seekers, truth tellers, joy bringers and game changers! From September 2022 we will be following the New Curriculum for Wales, this comprises of six Areas of Learning and Experiences: Languages, Literacy and Communications, Mathematics and Numeracy, Health and Well-being, Science and Technology, Expressive Arts and Humanities. It also encompasses three cross-curricular strands: Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Competency. Our curriculum enables us to join up our vision and values and ensure that our learners are ethical and healthy citizens, ambitious and enterprising in line with the Four Purposes. We aim to ensure our curriculum provides appropriate progression for learners of different ages, abilities and aptitudes. We use a variety of assessment methods to ensure that all children are making progress at a rate that is appropriate, but also ensures that our children are stretched and challenged. The Memorare Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen. Hail, Holy Queen Hail, holy Queen, mother of Mercy. Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping, in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary. Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. OUR PRAYERS Our Father Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen Hail Mary Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen Glory Be Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen Morning Prayer Father in Heaven, you love me, You’re with me night and day. I want to love you always In all I do and say. I’ll try to please you, Father. Bless me through the day. Amen. Evening Prayer God our Father, I come to say Thank you for your love today. Thank you for my family, And all the friends you give to me. Guard me in the dark of night, And in the morning send your light. Amen. Fatima Prayer O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, And save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy. Amen Guardian Angel Angel of God, my guardian dear, To whom God's love commits me here, Ever this day, be at my side, To light and guard, Rule and guide. Amen Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in this day of battle. Be our defence against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen Sister Elizabeth Kelly Roedd y Chwaer Elizabeth Kelly, CSB a adwaenir yn fwy hoffus fel "Sister Liz" yn gyn-ddisgybl, athrawes a Phennaeth Santes Ffraid. Yn dilyn ei hymddeoliad, daeth yn Gaplan Santes Ffraid. Since her passing she is still remembered by everyone at St. Brigid's. Her spirit and beliefs will always be a part of our school. Yn syml iawn, y Chwaer Liz oedd "St Brigid's" ac mae ei phersonoliaeth a'i hethos yn dal i atseinio heddiw.

In 1943, the Nuns moved the school to the present premises, an early-Victorian house, and the school became St. Brigid’s Convent School, catering for children from age 4 to 18, from all over Britain and Ireland. 1943 1943 1943 1943 1946 1946 1946 1946 In 1946, the Sisters were asked to provide a Catholic education with high academic and disciplinary standards for the daughters of Polish Officers, thus forming the basis of an international dimension of the school. Over the years, it became a very successful boarding school, and became known as the Brigidine Convent During 1990, when due to the lack of vocations, the Congregation were concerned about the future of the school. A former parent, Mr. William Spencer, purchased the property and leased it to a newly-formed Trust, under the patronage of the Bishop of Wrexham, which ran and developed the school, and it grew as a successful Independent Boarding School. In 1999, the school became Voluntary-Aided, supported by Denbighshire local authority, which it remains to this day. 1999 1999 1999 1999 2024 2024 2024 2024 1996 1996 1996 1996 In 1996 the school became Grant Maintained; the first maintained boarding school in Wales. The Articles of Association of the School Trust state that “The Company is established for the advancement of the education of children between the ages of 3 and 19, by the provision of a voluntary-aided Roman Catholic School or School for the education of Roman Catholic children, either with or without other Christian or non-Christian children.” The Constitution of the school states that “Religious observance and education in the school shall be in accordance with the rights and practices and doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church” The Governing Body of the School intend that pupils should receive an education of a high standard provided by teachers dedicated to the task of the Christian formation of Children and young people in an atmosphere pervaded by Gospel values and the message of Christ. This means that Religious Education, whilst given full expression in the Prayer life of the School, its acts of worship and instruction in the faith, is not limited to these, and as the Bishops have said, “The beliefs and values it communicates should inspire and unify every aspect of school life. It should provide the context for, and substantially shape the school curriculum and offer living experiences of the life of faith in its practical expression.” Partnership with parents, the primary educators of their children has long been a principle embedded in Catholic education. The Governing Body values and welcomes, above all, the co-operation of parents in seeking to achieve these aims for pupils attending the school. The governing Body has agreed that all parents seeking a place at this school should be required to sign below to signify that they understand and accept this statement of aims and identity for pupils at the school.
