ST BRIGID'S MIDDLE SCHOOL Ages 10 - 14 The aim of our Middle School is to promote the safety, success, development and happiness of all learners at St. Brigid’s. Our pastoral system is developed in tiers, which ensures that your children receive the best possible nurture and help throughout their school life at St. Brigid’s; from Form Tutors to senior leaders, to outside agencies, your children are supported at every stage. Every day, pupils have form time where they can check in with their Tutor. Time is spent taking part in welfare checks; collective worship; discussions around current affairs; global issues; reading; ‘This day in History’ to name a few. This is a time for learners to prepare everything they need for the day and share experiences or concerns. Our supportive team talk about the children and any additional support that may be needed. The pastoral head is always available and pupils can be referred for pastoral check ins and 1-1 sessions where necessary. We closely monitor attendance, punctuality and learner engagement at all times to ensure your children have the best possible access to the curriculum throughout each academic year. Where necessary we will liaise with excellent outside agencies that we collaborate with ensuring pupils with specific issues have their needs met. This includes us working with youth services, school-based counsellors, police liaison, behaviour support services and other fantastic external providers. LEARNING The education, care, support and guidance of the pupils is firmly based around our Brigidine Learner Profile which has been adapted and developed to cross reference with the Curriculum for Wales Four Purposes. We aim to develop young people who are: Ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives Enterprising creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work. Ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world. Healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society. All the children can visit our beautiful chapel, a safe place to sit, reflect and pray. The team, led by Mrs. Bollard are always on hand to provide a listening ear. As a school we have collective worship gatherings throughout the week where we come together to celebrate the teachings of Christianity and the Roman Catholic Church. Throughout the year alongside the daily curriculum there are many additional themed days. For example, mental health and well-being days; antibullying sessions; health and fitness and sports days and STEM science projects, all contributing to developing your children’s experiences, knowledge and skills. Our aim is to develop pupils into independent, resilient, kind and caring individuals, ready to learn and prepared for life in our ever-changing world and community. As Head of Middle School, I am responsible for the pastoral care of your children. My role is to promote the safety, success, development and happiness of all learners at St. Brigid’s school. RECOGNITION OF AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE SCHOOL’S ROMAN CATHOLIC AIMS AND IDENTITY St Brigid’s School was founded at the request of the Bishop in 1939 to provide for the educational needs of Catholic families in the Denbigh Area, by the Congregation of St Brigid, who ran the School, sometimes known as Brigidine Convent School, until 1990, when it was handed over to an Educational Charity, as St Brigid’s School Limited. The Articles of Association of the School Trust state that “The Company is established for the advancement of the education of children between the ages of 3 and 19, by the provision of a voluntary-aided Roman Catholic School or School for the education of Roman Catholic children, either with or without other Christian or non-Christian children.” The Constitution of the school states that “Religious observance and education in the school shall be in accordance with the rights and practices and doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church” The Governing Body of the School intend that pupils should receive an education of a high standard provided by teachers dedicated to the task of the Christian formation of Children and young people in an atmosphere pervaded by Gospel values and the message of Christ. This means that Religious Education, whilst given full expression in the Prayer life of the School, its acts of worship and instruction in the faith, is not limited to these, and as the Bishops have said, “The beliefs and values it communicates should inspire and unify every aspect of school life. It should provide the context for, and substantially shape the school curriculum and offer living experiences of the life of faith in its practical expression.” Partnership with parents, the primary educators of their children has long been a principle embedded in Catholic education. The Governing Body values and welcomes, above all, the co-operation of parents in seeking to achieve these aims for pupils attending the school. The governing Body has agreed that all parents seeking a place at this school should be required to sign below to signify that they understand and accept this statement of aims and identity for pupils at the school. Mae pob disgybl yn ein hysgol yn rhannu'r hawl i brofi cwricwlwm eang a chytbwys sy'n cyd-fynd â'u hanghenion, ac i gyflawni eu potensial llawn. Bydd asesiad parhaus gan staff yn helpu i nodi lle mae plant yn cael anawsterau sylweddol ac angen lefel uwch o gefnogaeth nag arfer. Fel y gŵyr rhai ohonoch, mae'r Ddeddf ADY gyfredol yn newid, mae disgwyl i hyn gael ei gyflwyno ym mis Medi 2021. COLLECTIVE WORSHIP Collective worship within St. Brigid's is valued by all pupils and members of staff. They have the opportunity to take part in rosary each day. Pupils are expected to reflect and pray each morning, lunch and end of the school day within their lessons. The Memorare Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen. Hail, Holy Queen Hail, holy Queen, mother of Mercy. Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping, in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary. Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. OUR PRAYERS Our Father Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen Hail Mary Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen Glory Be Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen Morning Prayer Father in Heaven, you love me, You’re with me night and day. I want to love you always In all I do and say. I’ll try to please you, Father. Bless me through the day. Amen. Evening Prayer God our Father, I come to say Thank you for your love today. Thank you for my family, And all the friends you give to me. Guard me in the dark of night, And in the morning send your light. Amen. Fatima Prayer O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, And save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy. Amen Guardian Angel Angel of God, my guardian dear, To whom God's love commits me here, Ever this day, be at my side, To light and guard, Rule and guide. Amen Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in this day of battle. Be our defence against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen Sister Elizabeth Kelly Roedd y Chwaer Elizabeth Kelly, CSB a adwaenir yn fwy hoffus fel "Sister Liz" yn gyn-ddisgybl, athrawes a Phennaeth Santes Ffraid.
